    Radiant field

-26 here at 11:00 am. According to the Uponor reps it will be 15 degrees warmer on the field than in the stands. The new system installed this year will be really put to the test! They have the capability of really cranking the heat to the sideline zones. (hopefully the New York side will have "technical difficulties"!) GO PACK

    You still ...

Have 5 + hours to go. Do you think the temps. are going anywhere other than down?

Lombardi was a slave driver! No one should have to play in those conditions....Although, I woke this morning to 30° on the Gold Coast...and by noontime, it's down to 17°.

Maybe the Chargers will just give in and say it's too flipping cold....we forfeit. Go Pats! Chris

    Spec's

Got any spec's on that system? What's driving it? GPM?

    Obviously they're at design conditions!

    Lambeau specs

No I don't really have any specs, except that it IS a hydronic system. I know there is 41 miles of tubing under the field. The turf is about 70% grass and the rest is a mesh with fiber "grass" woven into it, with a sand bed underneath. According to the Uponor rep the temp of the sand sould remain under 55 degrees or it will kill the grass. That's why last week they had so much snow accumulation on the field. This week is different. I don't think they care if the grass dies, as there can be no more games in Lambeau this year.It will be interesting to see if players take that extra second to get up just to warm themselves. The sidelines have the ability to really heat up althogh I would love to know what temps and flow rates are being used. Pretty cool stuff isn't it?!!

    web info --re-post

"...This past spring, the Packers installed an entirely new playing surface, including a completely new drainage and heating system, bringing the latest technology in field management to the famous stadium. Chief to the new system is DD GrassMaster, a natural grass surface reinforced with man-made fibers. All existing levels of the field were removed and the new system began with a clay sub-grade level, compacted and graded (with a .6 percent slope), including drain tile, irrigation pipe and thermostat wiring for the heating system....

  • simply amazing! and what about

u of phoenix stadium, with a retractable roof and a roll-out grass field?; football in the am and dirt bikes that night

"The grass field rolls out of the stadium on an 18.9-million-pound tray, residing outside of the stadium except for football and soccer events. With the field in the outboard position, the 158,000-square-foot floor is unencumbered by the turf and features a built-in utility grid.

The grass field remains outside the stadium in the sun until game day, which allows for the maximum amount of sunshine and nourishment, eliminating humidity problems inside the stadium and providing unrestricted access to the stadium floor for events and staging."

"The system carries 8,000 tons of cooling power, enough capacity to chill 2,300 homes. For a football game on a 100-plus-degree day, bringing the stadium to a comfortable 78 degrees would cost somewhere between $10,000 and $15,000."
