    Senseless

It demonstrates that our job is never finished. We have to KEEP spreading the word. Very sad:

    Carbon monoxide poisoning kills three

Authorities in Indian River County said carbon monoxide poisoning killed a 29-year-old woman and her two daughters Friday, according to a report by Scripps-Treasure Coast newspapers.

Indian River County Sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jeff Luther said someone called 911 at 1:50 p.m. about someone found dead at at a home in the 300 block of Seventh Court Southwest. Inside were the bodies of Yolanda Elaine McCloud, Reyona Parker, 11 and Alexia Parker, 10, Luther said.

Deputies noticed the stench of carbon monoxide when they walked in the home. Thursday, Luther said the power company had turned off the electricity to the home. That's when McCloud purchased a generator, he said. Deputies Friday found the generator had been on but was out of gas.

(Another sad byproduct of this online article was the advertisement for a local HVAC dealer, placed right in the body of the text. I know why but if I were that dealer I'd be embarrassed.)

You have a link for that article John?

Was the generator inside the home?

    Generators

Every time there's a major power outtage you read about this. Sadly a lot of people don't realize that you can't run a generator in your garage thats connected to your house or in your cellar etc.

    You would

You would think that the generator company would step up to the plate in address this issue.

Sure box them a manual that even some professional do not even read.

Why not a big yellow sticker on the box saying installed in the home and you will die.

Then again the ciggs company do that and people still smoke.

You can lead a horse to water.............

    yellow sticker

The sticker probably already exsists on the box. Even so look at snow blowers and lawn mowers with stickers of little fingers getting chopped off on them, pretty self explanatory yet I personally know at least two people who's digits are all of equal length from doing that very thing.

    one day,...

someone will get a proximity CO lashed into certain products, the sensor will work like a LWCO..

  • Read Instructions???

I have two generators [two different manufacturers] Both came with large clear yellow labels warning users to NOT use themm inside a building.

Its the same old problem. No one reads the instructions or "It could never happen to them".

    ...also one day

The CO message will ring loud and clear when a person of prominence dies from poisoning. Up until now, it is mostly 'common' folk that have been affected. If that sounds cold so be it.

The label is required on all generators and their boxes manufactured or imported after May 14, 2007

    CO

    I thought C.O. was odorless...???
  • It is (newly added retraction!)

and I contacted them to request they publish a correction so that their readers have the benefit of factual reporting. No reply. None really expected.

I now need to retract that statement.

I received a reply (can't reproduce it legally)from Mark Lukens, Data Desk Editor, FLORIDA TODAY. In it, he indicates he is forwarding the note (along with many others he has received) to their health reporter and Metro Desk.

Maybe they'll do the right thing?
