    Leed Rating System

Just read through the recently released Leed for Homes rating system at http://www.usgbc.org/ShowFile.aspx?DocumentID=3638.
Nowhere is there mention of Mod-cons and the various add ons to same. Either they missed the boat or you guys are flying under the radar.

    yes

hot water heating is a small portion of the pie. Most people see the efficiency numbers on condensing furnaces and think they have the best system there is.

Which is fine, they aren't too many people in my area that can build the wild stuff we do when it comes to Euro-style heating systems.

There are many people in my area who can bang out a lame warm air system

    Energy Star

The LEED for Homes Program references the Energy Star for Homes program, which gives you credits for a single appliance that provides the energy for both space heating and domestic hot water. Therefore, a boiler providing both space heating and DHW gets credits, and they also have a requirement that the boiler isn't oversized for space heating. Basically, the only boiler that will get you credits will be a mod/con boiler doing both space heating and DHW. We just signed the contract for the first LEED Platinum sub-division in Canada, we are installing a wall hung mod/con, RFH, combo Air Handler/HRV, solar DHW pre-heat,demand re-circ, and ECM pumps.
