TN4 Glitches. Anyone else? (The Youngster)

Josh_10

Were having a few glitches with the first few TN4 systems we installed. Mainly addressing problems and in-ability to change parameters(in ADV mode).

Of the dozen or so systems we have out there they are all running flawlessly except for the first 2. These would be early 2006 right when the system was released. Has anyone else had problems?

    mike the man

Did you call Randy or Mike up in Canada? Go right to the people that have the real answers. These guys are the best; they actually make calling in for tech help a pleasure.

I juiced up my first TN4 yesterday. I had a glitch; I didn't know how to set up the 423. I was in a basement, and after I left a message for Mike, I looked down at my phone and saw that I had NO bars on my phone. My phone starts ringing about 6 minutes later and sure enough it was mike. He says, "gary, good thing I had your number written down because I heard your name but then I couldn't here anything else".

I love this guy; he rocks.

Now that is tech service! I will go through my local rep first (which happens to be my former employer). Good to know some names though.

    Glitches yes.....

Is it due to me programming and NOT "Locking" the dipswitch on each stat.....yes. This house is still not occupied yet and other tradesmen can't seem to keep their hands off.

I have a few "Control" errors at the stats that I need to go get corrected. Also, my laptop crapped out on me and I have yet to coordinate and syncronize the TN4 0-10V signal to the input of my Lochinvar Knight's. I could probably do it by trial and error, but I would rather plug the laptop in to the Knight and sync up the signals. Right now, my TN4 signal at XXX volts equals 20% firing rate from the TN4, but uquals about 32% firing rate on the Knight. I wish the Knight needed a minimum 1V signal that equalled a 20% firing rate.

What parameters are you not able to change Josh? What do you think about the non-existant training in 2007 and the still pending Gateway equipment that was promised Spring of last year?

Makes a guy wonder.....but I know that it really is an awesome system. I would like to employ a few on some geothermal jobs.

    Paul,

The parameter I can't change is the un-occupied temp on a TN4 544 when set to mode 2. For some reason it won't do a darn thing. It does work in mode 4 however. The other 544 I have in the house does it just fine.

The addressing thing I am still suspicious of. I think the HO may be unlocking the stat and screwing with it. Never the less the system is way to complicated for Joe Homeowner even in user mode.

I am getting sick of going back to fix adressing issues. I have contemplated switching to Honeywell's system. I have been a big advocate of Tekmar and I will still use their other controls but I lack confidence in TN4 at this point.

I guess each North American rep got 40 or so Gateway modules to beta test. We didn't get one. I guess were not special enough.

As for Geothermal we have been using HBX controls. Very similar to Tekmar but they have Geothermal logic built right in.

Josh, what software version of the 544 are you using?

We had an issue where we had to replace about 39 544's on a hotel job because of a software glitch. The "latest/greatest" software version is now available to correct some of the issues with the previous versions of the 544's. Are you by any chance also using a 423 control? I think I would get on the horn to Mike Miller at Tekmar. Like they said above, that guy IS the greatest. don't mess around too long driving yourself batty. Call early and often.

    early 422 and 545 issues

had problem with 545 exercising ac, problem fixed with warranty replacement. 422 also had glitch with modulating a TTube boiler. 2 weeks and finally got answer about problem. changed control with 422 warranty replacement. now its working properly. you would think that if a problem is known, TEKMAR should let the installing contractors in on it.
