Shot buried return solution
I was wondering if this could work. I want to convert the lower 2 pipe steam rads to heat with return condensate. I may need to keep the lower left rad connected to the supply to act as a drip for the rad above. I think all I will create here is an extended end of main loop seal with rads in the line. I suspect this could be a great set up to utilize a condensing steam boiler.

Condensate
My first thought is that there will not be enough heat left in the condensate to provide enough heat.

I've seen similar setups
and if the basement's heat requirement is rather low, they can work. Do a heat-loss calc to be certain, use water temp of 160 or so since the flow is gentle and the average temp in the rad will be lower as a result.
You will want to equalize from the steam main to the loop that goes over the doors. This is, in effect, a False Water Line. Will you have enough "A" dimension there?
It might be simpler just to run most of the return above the floor and trench it under the doorway. Or, if the old return is large enough, snake flexible copper thru it and tie in at both ends.
