MOLINE VAPOR SYSTEM

I WAS EXCITED TO RUN INTO MY FIRST MOLINE VAPOR SYSTEM. THE HOME DATES BACK TO 1866 AND CURRENTLY HAS A 40 YEAR OLD STEAM BOILER WITH A LEAKING BLOCK. THE CURRENT SYSTEM HAS HAD DISTRIBUTION PROBLEMS PLAGUING THE CURRENT OWNERS. AFTER DOING MY RESEARCH I DECIDED TO TRY TO BRING THE SYSTEM BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL DESIGN. HOWEVER AFTER SEEING TRAPS ON ALL THE RADIATORS AND STEAM VENTS ON A FEW I WONDER WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO GO. OBVIOUSLY THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN BUTCHERED OVER THE YEARS. CAN ANYONE SUGGEST WHICH WAY I SHOULD GO? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Best thing to do
is fix the Vapor system. Molines are pretty well understood here so you can come here to ask questions.
First thing to do is get rid of those radiator vents, and find out why the air isn't leaving the dry return.

I UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE PUT AIR VENTS ON STEAM RADIATORS TO SOLVE HEATING PROBLEMS WHEN THEY SHOULD JUST ADRESS THE TRAPS. BUT WHY ARE THERE TRAPS ON THE RADIATORS HERE. AND YES THE RETURNS ARE DRY SO IS THE MOLINE VENT BAD?

Steamhead is the best,,and we`ll all try to help also.
Just remember to undo your capital lock,,that usually denotes yelling.

restoring a moline vapor system
Sorry about the cap lock guys. I had read that nothing can fail inside the moline vent is this correct because the steam vents are obviously a sign that the radiators werent heating properly. Also there is an addition but it dates back to the early 1900s so I think the piping is all original. So here I am with the job of replacing the boiler. After that is done and I remove the air vents then what about the traps? Also is there an equivelent to the moline supply valves today? Since Im sure some have been replaced.
