Combination systems

it is the IPC and the IMC that allow these systems.
I've never read the U codes recently, but had heard a rumor that the two were on the verge of a merge. Later, I heard from a U official that the marriage was called off...Problems with who was going to put the kids through college or some such...
So, you are correct dog, it is the I codes.

Combination systems
One of my local plumbing supply houses is telling plumbers it is OK to branch off of existing domestic hot water distribution lines to run radiant heat for bathroom, sunrooms, etc.
This seems wrong to me, does either the ICC or UPC code address this? Thanks0 -
Mark E will tell you a story about that! I think that whoever makes suggestion like that should be responsible for the outcome!0 -
At present...
Those AHJ's under the auspices of the UPC and the UMC do allow for the use of combination potable/space heating applications.
There IS hope on the horizon.
Will be able to share more information with you after March 1st.
Tell your suppliers who are proponents of these deadly systems to google yates & legionella and eatherton & legionella.
If, after reading Dave's and my articles, they still want to persue a career in legionellosis generators, then they deserve the wrath that will be stowed upon them by the legal community. It has already taken place over in England, and will be at a site near you in the near future.
As a survivor of the deadly scourge, I can tell you that you NEVER want to contract this disease. Here it is, over 2 years since my exposure, and I STILL suffer the side effects. I'm almost certainly guaranteed to have C.O.P.D. symptoms from the exposure for the rest of my life. I'll never be the same again.
And it IS preventable.

What about IPC?
Chapter 501.2; seems if potability is maintained (they "suggest" drilling small holes in the isolation valves to prevent stagnation) then it's OK. I looked at a system the other day where a homeowner had used two water heaters (in seperate rooms, common single-wall vent thru a wall and out horiz. into a dryer vent cap). He was quite proud of his accomplishment, noting the valve arrangement to allow cold water to circulate for "AC" in the summer. His big complaint was flue gas smells. "This is a good idea, don't you think"?0 -
Thanks to everyone who posted comments on this question, this is good information to have. Mark what happens March Ist?0
