Scott, Yes you need to pitch for runoff . A crush stone surface is a problem to snow melt in some areas . Be careful!!!

We are in the process
of designing a snow melt for a 60 x 60 area. This will have a crushed stone surface and the powers that be would like to go with a soft base. In other words a layer of blue stone dust ( lynn pack ) and then the crushed stone. We would install a Tekmar Snow/Ice sensor.
The builder wants to know what happens to the runoff after the snow is melted since it will not be able to drain into the ground do to insulation. I've never thought of it before.
Any answers ??

Run-off
Evaporation will take care of some of the melt. Even a gentle breeze (read that to be good old New England wind) pulls a lot of that liquid right back into the atmosphere.
I've not seen any real large volumes of 'melt' that had to run-off somewhere. There was an error rendering this rich post.
