UA Local 488 centered in Edmonton Alberta Canada is DYING for tradesmen. There was a half page ad in one of the local papers sports section today. The main webpage is www.workunion.ca The section specifically addressing our U.S. cousins is below.

I'm not, nor have I ever been a UA member. Never particularly considered it. I have nothing for or against them. This is just a "FYI".
Two of my grown sons & I got tired for "fighting for scraps" in Ontario, and headed here to Edmonton a year and a half ago. I'm working as a pipefitter, #1 son has his last shot of apprentice school in Mar/Apr and he's a journeyman fitter, and #2 son got out of the retail auto repair trade (got 3rd year apprentice heavy duty mechanics standing for his journeyman auto mechanics ticket). We've never looked back. Good hourly rates, full benefits and pretty much all the overtime you can stand. I've read about the Klondike Gold Rush, and the Alaska Gold Rush. This is an Oil Rush. I've never seen anything like it. We know it won't last forever, but my sons and I are riding this pony while it's running.
Lots of camp jobs. Room & board is fully paid. You get bused between the camp & the site.
Be sure to bring your winter Carhartts. (No foolin'...).If it's a "live plant" site, I believe they provide fire resistant clothing, including winter gear.
There it is, for what it's worth.
