    Indirect questions

I'm getting a Burnham CM put in a week or so, and was wondering. Ihave a brand new electric HW right now, can it somehow be used as an indirect fired tank? What exactly is an indirect tank. Would it make sense to feed it with my boiler water, or is that not a good idea? I was thinking feed it with hot boiler water and either disconnect the electric to the tank , or leave it connected to keep water at a set temp... ??

Yes,it can be used but you will have to use a heatexchanger/bronze Circ pump that mediates between the boiler and the Waterheater. In my book it's not worth it, you will be better of using a indirect waterheater with a internal coil that takes the boiler water thru it(This coil is you heatexchanger).your operational cost on the Indirect is much less than a electric waterheater. If you want to go one step further and you have the proper South facing roof/Pitch/Exposure time, you can install a Double coil Tank that then (or when you are ready)can be interfaced with a solar system.

    no

an indirect has a boiler water coil or heat exchanger to heat the domestic water instead of electric elements.

The boiler water's pumped thru the coil by a circulator on the boiler when the thermostat in the stored domestic hot water on the indirect call for heat.

ahh ok that makes sense. I guess I'll just leave my hot water heater in place then until it fails. It's only a few months old now. Anyone have experience with the freedom cm's are they a good reliable boiler, or should I look at a different model?
