ceiling height and type of heat may be factors, and with a fireplace furnace and 23'ers, i have mine blowing down. but with radiant floors, fans shouldn't be necessary due to less stratification

ceiling fans
what is the best way to have the fan blowing for heating a room0 -
fans are for....
cooling NOT heating. Any type of a draft will have a chilling effect on you. The idea of pushing hot air down is a misnomer. It would be like trying the push a soccer ball to the bottom of a swimming pool...it just does not want to go.....leave it off.kpc

maybe a misknowmore
but not a misnomer. <;-) heated air is heated air, and how ya get it from one place to another is simply a matter of type of fan or convection. if you sit on my couch and i have a fire in the fireplace furnace, fan off, you'll notice an immediate difference when i turn the ceiling fan on and that 90deg air comes down on you when the couch
'strata' is 70degs. now, you may evaporate more sweat off of ya and feel an initial chill, but that goes right away0
