As usual. I'd bet Hot Rod hit it right on the head. Pull out that anode rode and use fresh water.

rotten egg smell
we have a radiant floor heating system with 80 gallon water heater and a recirc pump. It is a closed system and drained off a little water from system to lower operating pressure and got horrible egg smell What is cause? Is this normal? What can we do about this if anything?0 -
Yes, use Airfreshers, Just Kidding, Is the system heated by a Boiler or waterheater? . I did not understand the post!..... Sometimes if you use well water you can get some Minerals that when heated do all kind of things,What i use in my systems is a system cleaner and then a system treatment(Rhomar) Start with checking the PH maybe tap some fluid. Are you a" heating guy" or HO.?0 -
what type of tube?
Is it rubber hose by chance? Or if it is pex, is it a barrier type pex.
Also the anode rods in water heaters can sometimes cause that odor.

yep der,
i was about to ask the same/a similar question; smell from the drain off? 'sulfer' well? if so, there are some formulas out there, u of pa paper?, that tells ya in detail how to shock a well with clorox in order to get rid of those easter fart smells0 -
rotten egg smell
should you take anode rod out of a closed radiant floor heating system? we are on a well but never get that smell from our domestic water system. System has been shut off for about 6 months. Not normally a problem and I don't really care what it smells like as long as it isn't hurting anything. I bled off a little pressure and noticed the foul smell.0 -

I doubt the smell is going to cause a problem.
Is the heater connected to the potable water with a fill valve? Be sure you have an approved backflow device to prevent that water from entering your water system.

yep hr,
that was my other head scratch; heater/potable connection with no bflow p0 -
yes there is a double backflow prevention valve since there is a bit of food grade antifreeze in system as well0 -
Well??
0 -
ok, double backflow
is it an indirect wh and boiler, or a heat exchanger/
boiler system?0 -
an 80 gallon WH
as the dedicated radiant source as I read it?

How about some pictures of the System. I think i am not the only one that does not get you post ! there is just not enough information to figure it out, and again is the water from a well or from city water?. Was the system cleaned from the manufactures oil?. Is the system heated by a boiler? OR by a water heater.? Do you have Rubber hose as infloor tube. Oxygen barrier? Or none Oxygen Barrier. Too many things , No Feedback! I guess you maybe do not know the Answer to some of this but PIX go a long way!0
