    1500W electric heater...

w/ fake decorative flames. A 1500W electric delivers about 5100 BTU/hr the, same as a common 1500W electric milkhouse heater would deliver, and a little more than the small ceramic element type, oil filled radiator type (probably the safest, firewise) or radiant type electric heater (or a coffee pot, steam iron, toaster oven, etc.) would.

Beware though, electricity in much of America is a VERY expensive energy source (3413 BTU/kW-hr, do the math!) so if you view it as the road to energy independence it's a scam, if you see it as a warm, friendly decoration w/o ash and wood storage, than maybe it's just the ticket.

    Wondering the same thing

I saw in this sundays paper they are giving them away...if you buy a handmade amish mantle. The mantle is $298 and they will send you the fireplace free. Or you can purchase the heat surge fireless flame fireplace for $249 with out a mantle. but the offer endes tonight. They brag that it wil save you on energy bills. I use propane and it is costing @ $350-$400 per month. Does anyone have one that can honestly tell me if they work?

From all that I have read about them they are a will money based scam. The hearter is imported at costs around $35.00 I even doubt that the Amish made the mantles. A coffee pot in the first few minutes uses a lot of electric. The 5100 BTU that this puts out is the same as any electric heater, there all 5100 BTU. They all draw a lot of electric. If you use it your electric bill will go sky high. There is big money behind this scam taking out the full page adds in all the papers. Go to Home Depot or Manards and just buy an electric heater for $35.00 and you will have the same thing for a lot less money. This scam is an old **** in a new dress.
