does anybody know if the pex-al tubing can be used with regular copper crimp rings? had a problem back awhile with the wirsbo multicore pex-al-pex not being able to use the regular crimp rings. but have recently seen different brands of pex-al-pex out there saying that they can be used with copper crimp rings. just want to know if anybody has used it and what brand.
thanks

I've seen the SS pinch rings work on it but, I wouldn't do it, that gives pipe co every reason to not cover failures.
  • i used plastic, 'flair-it',

compression ftgs for all of my joints, except at the manifolds, and i haven't had 1 leak in 10yrs. homey's depot and lowes carries them

    I have used copper rings

on several brands of PAP for my test manifold connections. The ones that I cut out and use over and over for slab pours.

The PAP tube is sometimes a bit larger OD when you use that reamer expander tool, so install the crimp ring BEFORE you ream and expand. Or use the silver Kitec rings :)

For sure you need the o-ring type insert fitting, and you need to ream and expand the tube to prevent ripping those o-rings.

Here are 3 brands of PAP tube with copper rings. I like the Uponor PAP fitting best (upper right) It has the longest barb and that dielectric washer where the al touches the brass. Also the longest ss crimp ring for final assembly.

The brand with the very thin red o-rings don't hold up well in the parts buckets, and those small o-rings tear very easily, sometimes not known until you pressurize.

    * This arrangement may not be approved by the tube manufacturer.
