Barnes and Jones Two pipe system

I have a rather large home with a two pipe Barnes and Jones steam system. In the basement there is a B and J condensator that is allowing steam into the wet returns causing severe water hammer when the system starts to cool off. Is this something that can be replaced or should i cut it out and repipe? If i repipe how would i go about it. We have replaced all of the steam traps changed all of the main vents. This is the only problem that is left.

Barnes & Jones is still out there

The Condensator is B&J's name for a Return Trap, which is a pressure-powered pump that forces water back to the boiler if its pressure is too high for the water to return by gravity.

But when a Return Trap fails, it usually allows steam into the Dry (overhead) return, rather than the wet (below the boiler's waterline) return- the latter is filled with water, or should be. If you're getting steam in the wet return, something else is wrong.

Have you looked at the two check valves in the return below the Condensator to see that they're working properly?
