boiler with fan coil

Hi Wayne,
How about an aquastat on the supply to the fan coil, cutting out the blower before the supply temp. gets too low.

    I got a call from

a customer from 2 years ago. I installed a boiler with 2 fan coils. A problem happens when there is a call for heat and someone is taking a shower. Since the boiler goes into priority on a call from the indirect water heater for domestic hot water the fan coils have no hot water and blow cold air until the indirect is satisfied. I guess I could run the fan relays through a remote bulb sensor to shut off fans until the hot water returns to the coils. Any other suggestions? WW

    Aquastat on return line

Put the aquastat on return line so coil is hot before fan comes on. Set it at appx 100 degrees on and 15 degree differential. Watch out for too low of supply temps to coil causing short cycling. Good luck, Tim

    Summeraire

Summeraire came out with an air handler with that exact strategy built in. Finally!! An aquastat detects a drop in water temperature, and stops the blower. When the aquastat detects a higher water temp, the blower starts again. We haven't put one in yet, but it will prevent alot of callbacks.

    KISS

Loose the priority!!!!!! you probabaly don't need it if you've got enough tank so what if recovery is longer as long as you don't drain it which they may never do.

    Big Load

Your right! Most times you can probably get away without the priority. I got burnt when the air handler load was high enough to have an effect. Do the math, and apply the technology appropriately.

    Next time

Put in a oil furnace. Why have a boiler that has to heat the water then, the water has to heat the air.

Opps I forgot, this is a wethead site.

    Regarding fan coil & indirect

I would not shut off priority, use the aquastats on return lines and that will cure problem.

I agree use an aqustat to shut down the fans. The complaint isn't lack of heat--just cold air blowing on them. Stop the cold air blowing--they will still have domestic hot water and will not miss the heat being off for a short time.

    aquastat applications

I am in need of some model numbers for an aqua stat that will turn a fan on when the temperature rises. What are some that you have used with success? I don't need a high limit application...Ross

    honeywell

A Honeywell L6006c Tradeline would be a good one,can be used for temp rise or fall.

    Relay

What about putting a simple relay on the DHW circ, so that whenever it starts, it shuts off the air handler? Likewise, when the DHW call is finished, the air handler starts right back up.
