Possibly was his name..... I do remember that he was staunch advocate to keep service tech's rates up.
Do you remember how long ago that he retired?
Thanks

There once was a guy....
Who was it that used to (and maybe still does) provide info on billing and costs breakdown to determine what a business should charge. He had things figured to the last windshield wiper blade, brazing rod, and stationary. In fact when I first followed his cost breakdown I think his system showed that I was making a grand total of $15/hr.... and I own the company!
I am currently revamping and trying to update how much we charge for service(s). Also interested in any info on current cost breakdown on bidding projects for commercial and residential. Seems like I attend many technical seminars think it may be time to round things out on the business side.
The "bean" had an interested lecture on this subject a couple of years back and I would be very interested in obtaining more info. We have been using the same format for how we approach projects for a while now and think its time for a fresh look.
I think a week @ a business seminar in the Bahamas may be what I need!
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Tom Grandy and Associates class
I took Tom Grandy's three day "Business Basics Boot Camp" a couple years ago. It was the best investment in my business to date. It taught me how to figure my real costs of doing business (I didn't want to believe it), what I needed to charge, how to charge what I needed to have a decent profit, how to keep customer satisfaction up while doing it. It was real hands on number crunching type stuff and I found it to be a real value. Well worth what i paid for the class. I also paid to have my foreman take the class with me. For him to understand why I am always harping on unbillable time, waste, call-backs etc was priceless. He finally understood how the business works and how it was important to be as efficient as possible. He is now able to be my eyes in the field with the other employees and to stress to them that the more inefficient we are, the less money there is for raises, benefits, bonus' etc. It was the best money I have spent in a long time. Find Tom's class somewhere, he usually advertises in the trade magazines or you could probably google him.
Good luck,

This time around I've been with them for about six months, one service call easily pays two or three months worth of "tuition" and thats profit, not gross.Once you learn to "Take your medicine" as Frank is fond of saying you'll be drinking imported beer ,if you like.Google up Uncle Frank Blau, he has plenty of stuff under his own name for ya.Best to ya,the guy's that post here are the best I've ever seen, each and every one of them deserves all the success they can Jim0
