Glycol: How to calculate amount necessary
How do I calculate the amount of glycol for a hydronic heating system? Is there any texts that have this info? I have looked a Modern Hydronic Heating and Modern Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning but can't find info I need. Any help would be appreciated.

It depends on volume
George,
It depends on system volume. Calculate the volume of all the pipe, indirect coils, fan coils, and boiler. Then you take a percentage of that to give how much glycol to put in. Most people use a 30% mix, but if you are doing a snow melt you may wish to go to 50%. Your supplier of glycol should have a chart that will give you the right percentage for freeze/burst protection that you will require. Hope that helps.0 -
