Tapping Noise Driving Us Crazy

Copper Pipe Expansion Tapping Noise Driving Us Crazy

We are an apartment building with four (4) Slantfin, and two (2) Peerless Pinnacle boilers. When the buildings were built I assume that there was no insulation put around the pipes when they went through the joists and the tapping we hear and receive complaints about is the pipes expanding and contracting.

Is there anything that can be done to lessen the noise short of ripping down the ceilings and installing bushings? How do you advertise for apartments only for those who hearing is failing!?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The noises are associated with thermal expansion/contraction, so if you can keep the temperature swings of the supply at a constant the noise should be minimal or not as noticeable.
