Know first
your cost of fuel both gross and net. Electricity is a fuel of course... so include the bottom line utility bill cost.
Know also the water temperature needed as this will effect efficiency on both units but the GSHP mostly. (Presumption is that you will be below the dewpoint of flue gasses regardless so condensing is assured.)
There are fuel calculators available on-line. Just enter your final unit number and efficiency. With a GSHP the COP or efficiency will be in the positive numbers and can vary widely between 3.0 and even 5.0 in some cases.
Thus, gas at say $2.00 per therm and 95% (0.95) efficiency will give you 95,000 BTUH for that price.
The same heat output (95K) if provided electrically via a GSHP but at a COP of 3.5 (3.50 efficiency) will take about 8.0 kWH. If at $0.15 per, the cost would be $1.20 to obtain the 95,000 BTU's you seek. Just one example.
There are so many variables, it makes sense that you take stock of your specific conditions and factors.0
