    Boiler PSI reading 0

    Hi ALL.
I have a steam heating system in my house. The radiators are single piped systems that are controlled by thermostats. The boiler is similar to the one found here: http://www.vonwentzel.net/HVAC/SteamBoilerDryFire/index.html

My problem is that not enough heat is coming up to the 2nd level of house. Is this a pressure issue? The gauge in the boiler registers 0 so i added more water from the auto fill to increase the pressure but this did nothing.

Please help. What am i doing wrong?

    Thanks.

    zero pressure

More info is needed to get any replies. Is this a new problem or one that has been around for a while. Has any one performed service on this unit or did you just move there. If this equipment is foreign to you best to call a heating pro as a boiler is really nothing to mess with.

    Water pressure, nooooo

If it is steam, you don't want any pressure registering on gauge when not hot. Is there a glass tube on the side of the boiler?? This should be appx 1/2 full. No pressure when off, after running awhile you should register a little pressure, ? maybe less than a pound. If gauge glass is full, you need to drain down to 1/2 full. Then try it. Sounds like you need a pro for some service and instruction. Good luck, Tim

One of the first things to check is if the valves on the supply pipe are open or not, sorry if it sounds like a stupid question, they may however be closed. On the opposite end of the radiator from the supply valves there should be a vent valve located approximately 1/2 way up the radiator. These allow air to flow out as steam is coming up and then close as steam has filled the radiator. Depending on the manufacturer, these may or may not have an adjustment dial on them allowing you to throttle the flow, check to see that they are open if. These vents should also be in the vertical position with the vent hole on top. Lastly, if still no heat, remove one of the vents to allow air to flow out and see if steam comes up to radiator, as it is coming up you can hear and feel the air being pushed out, if you start to feel the heat coming up the pipe and first section reinstall the vent in the opening and purchase new vent valves.
Please be careful if you allow steam to come out it burns. All of this assumes that the settings for pressuretrol and thermostat are ok. Good idea to get a professional in and check things out for you.
