inconsistant hot water

Hot water coils are dependent on the heating water in the boiler. The coil is submerged in the heating water. Cold water enters the coil and picks up heat on the way through.
You could have one of a few problems. The boiler temperature may be set too low. The coil may have developed a coating of lime inside of it that will keep the heat from transferring properly. Or you may be trying to flow too much water through the coil.
Adding a storage tank called an aquabooster can be one way of dealing with the problem. Another way is to install an indirect water heater which works off the boiler. or a separate water heater.
Best bet is to have a professional come out and assess the situation. Click on "Find a Pro" under the resources tab at the top of the page.

inconsistant hot water
I am a fairly new homeowner and I am having problems with my how water. I have a New Yorker oil fed boiler (model# clw3)for heat and hot water. The unit is a tankless system and I cannot maintain hot water on a consistant basis.
The water starts off hot, becomes warm/cool in less than a minute, then takes several minutes to become hot again.
Is this a common problem with tankless hot water systems or is something failing?
Should I add a hot water tank in addition? (must be oil fed)
Any advice is greatly appreciated....
