Looking for OLDEST service tech
Glen
Member Posts: 855
that would be the cumulative age of all the wallies that visit here. Write the article on our host - as the facilitator of the group. (not to suggest Mr. H is old - but he is sorta like DAD you know) ;-)

Respect your elders
The NEWS is looking to locate the oldest HVAC service tech in the U.S. and write a story on him (or her). If you know of anyone or if you think you are the oldest, enter your name at our website. The deadline is Leap Year Day:

Say does that crawl space
I worked in today qualify me as working or the roof I was on yesterday. At 68 years old it takes me forever to climb a ladder. Oh well retirement is just around the corner. The problem is I can't find the corner. Now what did I do with my flashlight, oh yeh its in my pocket.0 -

There is a man at Boland Services in Rockville , MD who is 85 years old. He ( Vern )performs new centrifugal chiller start-ups ( Trane Centrivac's ) and has worked there since he was 35 years old . He is a great man. -Mike
( I just read your post all the way through and followed the link...I don't think he'll register ).

Does it count...?
Just turned 45 last month, but it looks like my face has worn out three bodies! Now, I know I'm not over the hill, but I can damn sure see the top from where I'm at.
Gotta go home and take some vitamin I (ibuprofen) now,

Don't feel bad Mike...
Just the other day, I could not find my truck key's and I mean I looked every where. I finally found them in the refrigerator, on the top shelf where earlier I had grabbed a bottle of water.....Oh the pain of getting older. "Sorry Mrs. Jones, I am running 1/2 hour behind.....Traffic....:-)

exactly!
and i've given in to writing everything down because it's very easy to forget, which has an added benefit of having months' worth of 'data' at my fingertips in my columbo note pad, but there's nothing one can do about misplaced keys etc0 -

John,
how about looking for the service tech that feels the oldest. :-)Retired and loving it.0 -
how old?
yeah, i wondered the same when i asked his daughter, age 64, and she said that they're his contemporaries, but not all of them are his life-long patients. some are local to his home neighborhood, because he'd closed his practice residence do to that hood going down hill0 -
Pete Bloomfield/Perth Amboy Refrigeration (N.J.)
I Believe Pete is past his mid-eighties and he is still doing service work 24/7.0 -
Hey hvacfreak!
I have a Boland tech sitting here with me right now who knows Vern!0 -
Good Thinking *~/:)
Well considered , Dan.
i once knew a lady who was 104,with crystal blue eyes.
Every day, on the way to school, i would stop and ask her about life .
One sunny morning ,i asked her," To what do you attribute longevity to in your life?"
"Well, I only had one man and one cigar, every day of my adult life" ...
i am not too sure if the Dead Line of John's editorial will gather a great deal of affinity from the candidates...0 -
My dad started in 1964 and was not only a great tech but one of the old school tin knockers.
He did not know everthing but was always willing to try and learn. For the past six years he has worked with me daily. This past friday after a day of service calls he went to bed.
He was 71 and he had almost one thousand friends and clients to say good by.
My father Art Summers Will truly be missed however the comfort in Heaven will be taken care of.

How much richer can a man be
than to have 1000 people come to remember him? Truly, I am sorry for your loss. You must be very proud to know that your pops had such an impact on so many people. And be certain, not only is Heaven's comfort assured, but the comfort of Heaven is assured to you as well.
God bless you and your family in this difficult time,
Rocky0 -
I learned one thing from this...
I may feel like the oldest out there sometimes, but I'm not!0 -
Thank you for your kind words.
I am 40 and have worked with my pap since I was about 8 on weekends, summer time, and evenings. Yes; it has caught up with me my knees are shot and my back is gone. often times I wonder why we keep doing what we do; more so now than times past. However when I see his clients (family) come to say good by I know there will allways be a place for a honest company and gret craftsmanship.

yeah, why we do it?
i'm sure of one thing; the older i get, the less i rely on money for my motivation0 -
I'll be 55 in June. Lugging 6" pipe is getting tough.
Rodney, sorry for your loss. I'm sure you have a lot of wonderful memories of working with your dad. Nothing can take that away.
I worked with an "old timer" who was a really great guy and taught me the business.. Worked full time till he was 70. Then worked 3 days a week for another 3-4 years until he called it quits. Lived to be 80--not bad.
ED0 -
