WM GV-6 series 2 tips?

The orifice on this boiler is a flat plate, and a very large opening for the orifice. It is sandwiched between the gas line connection and the blower housing. I am prety confident that the broken vent is causing the pressure switch to bounce on & off as previously mentioned...we will see tomorrow...

Customer drove about 40 min into town Friday to buy an ignighter from me, and says the gas valve opens, but no ignition. Is this boiler a mod / con? I have not seen it before and hate to drive all the way up just to drive back then up and back again...best guesses? HSI module? I'd like to drive up with the best suspect in hand.

A recall on some of those gas valves

    as I remember?

    Blower starts?
    Ignitor glows?
    Voltage to the gas valve?
Coil snaps? How did he determine the valve actually opens? Check the coil resistence.

He said he hears the blower, and the gas valve clicks, but no ignition. The gas valve will open if no HSI glow as I recall. It would seem that I will just have to drive up, diagnose, and do the entire round trip again...

    Thanks, Tim

    Regarding GV boiler

The other common think we find on these boilers is they have been running on somewhat of a lower temp system and after 10 yrs or so they scale up in cast iron sections. We order new section gasket kits, tear em down and clean all scale. Re assemble and voila, reliable heat again. Boiler is actually a work horse until this point. Right on the verge of condensing normally.

So I brought an ignighter, but found the boiler was making a 'woof' sound (backfire) 4 times before re-trying. I checked the voltage to the GV and found that it was 'bouncing' from 24V to 0V. When disconnected from GV it was steady 24V until it decided there was no flame. Tried a new ignition moduel and a new GV only to find it was vented with the re-called plex vent and was cracked just as it left the boiler. If I held this crack closed, it would fire for 30 sec then shut off and re-try. His installing company dropped off the new kit from WM that is all SS venting, but it never was installed. He may have me back up to install the SS vent, but wants to make some calls & try to find the orig installer, who's # is no longer in service. What a strange symptom for a broken vent at the boiler outlet...

*edit...boiler is 15 yrs old. He wants the leaks in the copper fixed this summer. Can you guess what is making the leaks in the joints???

    Vent issue

It may be blocked or cross-contaminated. It's losing voltage at the gv by the pressure switch dropping out.
Also, pull the inducer off the block and check the flameholder for blockage or irregularities (splits).

Why fix those leaks ? "Glycol Blue" is such a pretty color :) And it's not even a ProPress job !

The 'cone' is perfectly clean, and I had a gasket to pop in. what a mess...

Well I hooked my fyrite up to the +&- ports of the inducer and found there was plenty of draft to keep the switch closed, but the switch lost vacuum when I checked it. Bad pressure switch. Replaced it and the vents and it ran great. Thanks for the help, folks!
