If so, how do they work?

    I wouldn't tink so, but....

...does it work with "steam only" rads?

    Must have top push nipples

They say survey the radiation for top push nipples (so no steam only rads) first as hot water must circulate across top of radiator before convecting back to bottom and exiting. Then derate radiator sq ft for expected water temperature (table provided). Of course you still have to run two tubes/pipes to/from the radiation back to the boiler.
  • NO, but....

I think I will be. That fitting would be REAL easy to build yourself. If you were so inclined, which I am not...

Neat concept. I've actually done something real similar to that on steam conversions. Except we had a top return route (2 pipe steam) the problem was that the radiator was tapped with both (S&R) of the same side. Works great with steam, but poorly with hydronics.

With non electric operation, that could save a butt load of energy and significantly increase the human comfort factor:-)

    Velly intellesting indeed.

    They don't mention

the increased pressure the system now runs under, and the possibility the old rads might leak. Which makes sense, doing so would hurt their sales.

Also they seem to forget that much of Europe's older heating technology was destroyed during World War 2. The rebuilding was done with hot-water. That's why there's so much of it there- think what would have happened if Dave Lennox was European........

And they haven't been following the Wall, otherwise they would be aware that steam heating is not necessarily inefficient.

We won't be using these. The company can't get all their facts straight and ignores at least one potential problem. We've seen some disastrous conversions- would they turn and run when the liability lawyers show up?
