I love it when my competition can't read.

    Will not recognize indirect aquastat

I have recently installed a Buderus gb142/24 running only one radiant zone and an indirect 50 gallon superstor contender. I had the indirect temporarily hooked to a taco 4 zone control to get it going before I left for vacation. The temperature outdoors increased dramatically in the days following and the outdoor sensor wouldn't keep the boiler hot enought to satisfy the indirect aquastat. I went back and wired the aquastat and circulator correctly, and now the boiler doesn't even recognize the indirect. I jumped the wire at the boiler's 24 volt bridge, and this did nothing. I read all of the manuals for the boiler, outdoor sensor, and indirect thoroughly, and played with the controls for a couple of hours. Any suggestions?

    GB142

The contacts on the GB142 for domestic are not 24v.

You need to use the sensor that is sent with the boiler for your domestic.

Okay, I made a mistake if the contacts are not 24 volt. This doesn't change the fact that I jumped the contacts with a peice of wire. NO SENSOR should be needed at all at this point. Anyone else?

    GB142

My understanding is the dhw terminals (F & W) are not contacts. They read the resistance of the sensor that was shipped with the boiler. If there is no sensor there, the dhw side of the control does not work. If you jump F & W with a piece of wire, it is reading the resistance of that wire and running the boiler temp accordingly.

The dhw sensor works on resistance, not open/close contacts. If you cannot modify the sensor we provide (use a flat file to help remove outer aluminum jacket and shape epoxy till it fits) here is a SUGGESTION. Use the aquastat and wire our sensor in series with the aquastat (wire from the GB142 FW terminal #1 to one wire of our sensor, other wire of sensor to one terminal of aquastat, other side of aquastat to GB142 FW terminal #2, place dhw sensor inside of GB142 on top of shelf above drawer assembly. When aquastat contacts close, dhw sensor is detected by the GB142, sensor detects ambient temperature inside boiler, GB142 goes into dhw production. When aquastat is satisfied aqaustat opens, no dhw sensor detected, GB142 goes back to heating mode. PLEASE keeep in mind the dial on the GB142 will not control the temperature in the tank. Please make a note on the GB142 DHW dial that it does not control the indirect tank temperature.) If there are any questions please contact me at 1-800-283-3787.

I am somewhat confussed on your answer about the indirect water temp setting. The boiler has two temp. control dials.
One for heating and one for domestic. If the domestic dail's temp. settings do not represent the tank's water temp. what does it represent and what temp. does the tank enable and disable.Mine seems to be relatively close.
I just want to add,I think this boiler is great.I can say this because I have it at home and being in the trade I have installed and serviced your competitors. This has been a very happy experience and as you know we in the trade can be very finicky and critical.

I really appreciate the response Joe. It seems the Buderus manual is slightly spotty in this area. Maybe I should have spent more time reading the information, but it also could have been a little more clear. Nonetheless, your information is invaluable and I look forward to installing more of these and contacting you with more questions. Thanks!
