Steam Main Vent Sputters

I don't see any pressure adjustment on the boiler. It's an old "Arcoliner" with a Beckett oil burner.
The vent is about 3 inches from the downturn of the main.
I didn't have the continuous sputter until this winter; it seemed to be ok all of last winter.

Main Vent Sputters
(I posted this yesterday but used the wrong words.)
ONE-PIPE STEAM SYSTEM, OLD. 2-inch pipes. New main vent installed a year ago. Now continually sputters, doesn't close. Boiler pressure was 3.5 psi. Replace vent? Any special type? Vent is hard to get at. Please help. Thanks.

Pressure
First set the pressuretrol to 0.5 psi cut in and 1.5 cut out.
Second is your vent located at the end of the main?
