We have these;

I'm told they're effective, I haven't used one.

    Rare Earth Magnets

    Google "Rare Earth Magnets"

    NdFeB (Neodymium Iron Boron) are the type I specify but there are others. Go for stainless or vinyl encapsulated to avoid the surfaces from corrosion over time.

    I put a few of these, maybe four ounces worth, in a filter sock in a Neptune filter feeder. Just as well you can put them in a wye strainer or any device you can isolate to remove and replace them.

    They eventually look like little black Chia Pets when encrusted with magnetite and other stray iron.
