revolution + tekmar for fin-tube and indirect?

It has been recently posited to install a Revolution RV4 (96k input) with a tekmar 260 in a two zone fin-tube (total load 64k BTU radiation for 50k BTU design day loss) system, also with a 40 gal indirect. Priority on indirect with appropriate circ. One space heating circ serving 2 zone valves.

Thoughts? Thanks.

    RV-4

It will make a fine application in my opinion.
I personally have an RV-3 serving 4 infloor zones with a
Tekmar 256, and have been very satisfied.

Only choice left is to decide if you put the pumps in
parallel with check valves, or go with a primary loop
    with its own pump.

    A fine boiler

I have a handfull installed and they perform well. A few problems with the early series that was quickly handled i.e.gas valves headaches.

Why for a fin tube baseboard, however. Unless you plan on some low supply temperatures? If so consider their modcon offering.

As I recall that rev runs very high boiler temperatures to allow that vs mix system to see returns down around 70F.
Although that 200F plus boiler really recovers an indirect quickly :)

If most of you operazting temperature is 140F or below the mod con will really shine.

    I'm with Hot Rod.

For the same money (just about...) , you could go with a smaller Mod/Con,and some sort of priority/reset control... and save the poor boiler from having to go to such high temps.at EVERY call.

The Revolution is a fine boiler, where it needs to be...but this doesn't sound like the best "guy for the job" in this case.

If you were to have large cast iron rads,or even (my new ...hopefully, understood term..) MID mass radiation, and the hot water demand..I would say go for it. With low mass emitters...I'm thinking that a mod/con and reset w/ priority will be a better solution. JMHO. Chris

    Thanks for the comments

There is a significant backstory to the (likely) selection of the Revolution here, that is not worth getting into. Agree that it may not be the "best guy for the job" for low-mass radiation, but may be "most reasonable guy" when other factors are considered.

I hadn't really thought about the firing to ~200F on every call, but yes, that will sure do a number for the indirect. Will have to read more about the mixing scheme.

I live in a climate with significant shoulder seasons that have 24hr temps a good 20-35F above design, so frequent circulation at moderate temps (for fin-tube) should be in order. Hopefully that takes some of the bang/bang out of it?

    Taking....

The Bang/bang out of the equation is most definately in your best interest. This is where the dollars to do-nuts comes into play...

Give the priority to making the hot water, but let the unit coast to make heat. Win/Win for all concerned. Let the bills prove it !. Chris
