I am concerned about using a low volume boiler such a a Biasi wi

called the Solaia. They recommend using either a thermal bypass valve or a primary-secondary system. We've done it both ways and I like P/S better.

low volume boiler used with old gravity piping/big radiators

I am concerned about using a low volume boiler such as a Biasi with an old heat system that was formerly a gravity system. It has 2-inch mains and returns and many big Cast iron radiators. What is your thinking on this? Thanks. Ken

    You need

something like a Vitodens Low Loss Header to connect the two. Given the old gravity system - perhaps a larger one than your normal system flows would indicate.

You could of course build something like it if you did not need a good temperature indication of the Mix temp.

    Reset

boiler temp only to safe operating point, then reset system supply temp as low as you want a with motorized mixing valve. This works great with high mass radiation
