Be very carfull where you drill! most T.J.I manufactures are very specific on where you can penetrate. Typically 18" from load bearing wall (inside of foundation) and whatever size hole you drill you have to be 6x the diamater to the next hole
however, you can make a hole as BIG as you want as long as you leave 1/4" on top and bottom. After having to pay for a replacement TJI, I always check with th G.C. or homeowner and have them ok every hole to be drilled, Pryor to spinning the steel!

Does any one here in a crwal space not drill holes in BCI/TGI's and loop under to the next bay.0 -
it is a crawl space....
my saying is .."I like to keep my work up."
you do what you have to do when planning has been thrown to the wind...0 -
IMO
It is easier to drill the holes then not have to insulate the loops that drop under the insulation between the TGI.

It takes a bit more tube and
looks un-professional to loop under the joists, in my opinion. Even in a seldom seen location
Generally an 1-1/2" hole can be drilled anywhere in the web of a I joist. Plenty for two runs of 1/2" pex to fit in.
Always best to check a hole drilling chart for the I joist you use. Some manufactures are now sticking these charts on the joist for the installers to use.
