installed kickspace heater now no heat

I recently installed a kick space heater in my forced hot water system that replaced a baseboard heater, but now my registers are not working.

The boiler shuts down shortly after I fire it up but the circulator keeps running. It seems that the system is not pressurizing. Do I need to purge the expansion tank? If so, how would I go about it or do I just need to get the air out of the boiler? I would appreciate any detailed information that I might try.

    air.

Purge the lowest to the highest zones one at a time.lock/gate them off as you go.might be a good time to check the existing air relife the fast fill and the coin vents:)

let the boiler cool down a bit before bleeding the air off...remember boilers no likey cold water on a hot surface. turning the recirc on after you feel comfortable with the zones being purged will let the spirovent(micro air resorber) do its thing a bit ....

    Just a thought..

When you say the system is not pressurizing, do you mean the gauge Read's "0"psi? Make sure the PRV is filling the boiler and purge or bleed as Weezbo stated. Lack of flow due to air bound system will simulate what you are seeing.

Mike, the boiler is at 12-14psi so I guess it is pressurized afterall. PRV?

    Weezbo, coinvents? what are they?

I appreciate all of you guys input. I'll try it tonight to see waht happens.

    Boiler pressure

We can be sure you have a positive pressure on the system, but I think you are air locked. Depending on how the system is pipped, you can bleed off the coin vents, usually located on the tail end of a given baseboard or radiator. Purging can be done if there is a method to do so. It's located at or near the boiler itself and consists of a shut off of some king and a hose bib connection. By taking one zone at a time you can purge out the air in the system essentially filling it with a solid column of water.

Might it be a MonoFlow system?

Thinking that the pressure drop through the heater might exceed the main. Just a thought, not discounting air binding.

Brad, the kickspace heater was installed with a single monoflo T on the supply line of the heater and a regular T on the return. When I installed the kickspace heater I essentially installed it in the previous baseboard space which is on the end of the line near the boiler.
The monoflo T and the regular T are connected directly to eachother via a 3/4 inch line with the kickspace on the top of the T's 1/2 inch outlet.

Mike, I purged the system last night and got the registers back on one side of the house, lots of little air bubbles came out of the system. Now the next question is, why is the copper supply line not getting hot? The expansion tank line (black pipe) is getting hot though. The coinvents will be the next thing I guess. The copper supply line looks like it runs down the middle of the house and T's off to both sides of the house on two returns. I say this because the ceiling is finished and I can't actually see them. The piping on the radiators are in and out- no piping between the two, which essentially goes around the whole house back to the boiler.

Well, I purged the heating system again (lots of air this time) and three more registers are getting hot now (two more to go). I'm not quite sure why all of the air isn't out (all on the same loop) I'll try to purge it again tonight. I only have one coinvent on all of the registers and that's at the end of the line so I'm not quite sure what that will do, since that side of the house gets hot.
