ABS to PVC connection

If you will have access to it in the future, I wouldn't mind using a fernco. Better yet a mission style that has a stainless steel outer ring to add rigidity.

If you are going to bury it behind a wall, ceiling, floor etc. then I would use a threaded connection. An ABS male or female adapter, with a PVC female, or male adapter.

Although the multipurpose cements work well enough for DWV work, as a young-old timer I would not bother because it looks like a DIY job, and is not acceptable by some local inspectors.

    ABS to PVC transition

What is the best way to extend (tie into) the ABS piping:

    1. Use a stainless (FERNCO) coupling

    2. Use the glue that will couple PVC to ABS? Does not meet code in some locations.

    3. Use ABS piping and fittings? Hard to find here in N. Virginia. I hear that it is more common than PVC in other parts of the country.

    Thanks,

    Phil

    Mechanical fitting.

go ith fernco ,they look like a mission coupling. or buy male and female adaptors....thread them together....mechanical fittings have my vote, too.

    ABS

When I need ABS pipe and fittings I buy it from Ferguson. The are one of the biggest plumbing suppliers in the US, there may be a branch near you if you woul drather continue w/ ABS. I personally would rather use solid PVC, it is a little quieter than ABS or foam core PVC.
