Nearing completion.......a few questions on Ultra Fin

a 24" oc spacing when I did a UF install. I alternated between the two tubes in the joist bay. I don't know that UF has output charts for a variety of different space dimensons.

As for radiant walls.. I like extruded transfer plates run up and down the studs. Doesn't seem to bother the tile contractor if I place them proud to the stud. I have also used 2X2 fur strips. The method without fur strips assures better contact to the CBS.

Use PAP, and if you can find some 3/8 plates for easier tube install.

Nearing completion.......a few questions on Ultra Fin

Well after 1 1/2 years of lolly gagging around with my project it is well on its way being 2/3's complete. We put in a new basement with Rehau pipe, new GB142, Amtrol boilermate 80 gallon, all new plumbing pex.... replacing the old copper, two new A/C units etc... etc... the list goes on.

We are approaching the heat two ways. Suspended infloor and potentially radiant panels if needed. However, we have about 75% of the pipe suspended in the floor joists now, completion by next week. We are waiting on Ultra Fin Headquarters as to their recommendation of the number and spacing of their fins. What ratio or spacing of plates per lineal foot of pipe in a joist bay have OTHERS used (two pipes per joist of course) Is their a point of "diminishing return. In other words, if the joist bay needs to be heated to 110 to drive enough heat through the floor and that can be accomplished with say 10 fins in a 17 foot cavity 16" on center, are their advantages to using more???

Also, can some one post some pics on in the wall heat behind the sheetrock wallboard. I thought Hotrod had some pics awhile ago.

    Thanks

    I spaced them

every 24" oc and alternated between the two tube runs when I tubed with the joist. If that makes sense. I'm not sure UF has output charts for a lot of different on center space choices?

As for the walls. I like to use extruded plates running up and down with the studs. i mount them right onto the stud. You may choise to run a 2X2 fur strip against the stud to keep the aluminum flush. I've not had a complaint when running the plates proud of the stud, and they contact the backer board better.

I use PAP, and if youy csan find them 3/8" tube size plates allow for tighter bend radius.

    I am waiting for

their updated sizing software, due out in September I believe. But the current installation guide seems to indicate tha you maintain the heat loss plate spacing when installing parallel to the joists. That is, the plates are now the spacing reference, not the tubing. I'd probably reference the centerline of the plate itself in that application. Would yield a few more plates. Still a lot of drilling if running single pass per bay, or more tubing if you loop it in the bay.

How do you do it, hot rod, parallel.

    p.s. Nice looking job.
