That is an interesting reality for my generation. Of course baby boomers can hire! They have $25,000 mortgages. But my generation is faced with buying a $350,000 fixer upper on a $50K a year salary. We are between a rock and a hard place financially.

You have to buy a house now because if you don't it's gonna be $50K more next year. The idea of saving up a down payment is gone. If you don't buy today your gonna be screwed tommorow.

I thought I was in over my head when my wife and I bought three years ago for $180,000. I don't even want to guess what the house is worth now. I can't imagine what a $350K mortgage payment looks like. Can anyone say Mac & Cheese?

Is it live and learn or live and don't learn?

With the proportion of home ownership steadily rising right now, I think there is something good to be said about young people owning their homes. Even if it comes with a learning curve.

What was the previous generation dreaming of? Not home ownership, but living it up in a commune. Love, man. This is a cheeky generalization that applies to nothing of course but it makes me smile, just like your pipe busting article did.
