Hook that into the hot tub and it will be ready when you get home at night. Unless you're like me and don't have a hot tub.....

    I just recieved this mini

evac tube demo collector. I built a small copper header, filled a bucket with 4 gallons of 80F water and turned on the pump. with it in the sun of course :) about 3-1/2 hours later the temperature was at 131. Pretty impressive from a 24" tube.

I'll hook the data logger on to it, cover the bucket and do some better BTU collected calcs.

    hot rod

I went to a customers house the other day. He has about 80 of these tubes on his roof and makes tons of hot water. Running a glycol solution he said he has produced 280 degree water. He stores it and uses it for hot water and heat. He also has a bank of photo electrics and produces a large amount of power. He's trying to get himself off the grid.

Sounds Almost Too Good to Be True

486 btu/hr for that little tube!?!?! Oh my!!!

    20 * 6' tubes would be 29,160 btu/hr at that rate...

On a typical winter day that would not only supply my daytime space heating needs, but have decent "leftovers" to at least power the towel warmer (connected to DHW) and losses from DHW recirculation!

Still swear I can do that on my system with just a small dual coil tank, one three-way mixer, one three-way diverter and simple-to-make controls using mainly off-the-shelf components. That with only the boiler's built-in circulator and a little circulator similar to what you have shown there!

  • He should hook that up to a steam generator and go off the grid that way :D
