Ya know the saying, "there otta be a law?" well, how many times have you said this in this industry?
What would you like to see changed, or invented?
Such as, (1) why in the world can't "they" put flat sides on cast street els? so we can get a wrench on them to really tighten them without losing a knuckle or two?
    (2) why can't all mfgs. make electrical knock-outs at the same height so when putting devices/controls/and boxes together, they all have the same angle? example. A deep 4x4 "j-box", tekmar Tn4, Argo relay box, and Taco controls, all have their knock-outs at different spots so when mounting them to a "panel" you have to get creative to make them look symetrical?

Anyone else have pet peeves or ideas? it would be interesting to see if things like this only bug ME?
    :)

    Call

Why dont you call the manufacturers.. We cant really help if you dont communicate. Posting frustrations is fine, but probably less beneficial than some real dialogue.

    tiny little voice

in a big world. If I want to make a suggestion where do I start. Seems mfg. really don't care what 1 person thinks. Only when there is a mass onset of complaints does something happen. JMO. Bryan Luke

    Have you

    tried, Bryan?

It seems you can not get to two voices until you have the first.

I think this is the perfect forum to get the word out. After you have assembled a group, go to the manufacturers as one large voice, the voice of the people!!

    Lawyers, Guns, & Money??

I belive its how you look at it. Sometimes its not the arrow, but the indian. If you are given lemmons, why not make lemmonade. Remember, anyone can do it WITH tools.., its doing without, that makes the mechanic..

Just happened to stop by today, and ...

What's the trouble with the RA832? Try replacing it with the R8845U1003. That's an updated universal relay that replaces RA832, R845 and many other Honeywell & competitive models. It has 1 knockout on the top, 3 on the bottom. Go to www.customer.honeywell.com, and scroll down to "literature", type in the part number, and you will get the full spec sheet, complete with measurements and wiring diagrams. No charge & no password needed. I think you will like this one better.

  • Did W/M change the electrical layout of their Ultra yet? Why did they ever put all the electrical to the back of the boiler directly behind the intake and exhaust. Where I work, the electrical comes last and wiring on these things can be a monster to meet codes with the limited number of knockouts they provide. And how are we supposed to get a nut on the one in the near left corner? My 2c.

    Thanks Darin,
This is what I was asking. little things that could make our job easier. Not looking for a debate about whether or not I should ask the question in the first place.
Here's another Idea....Why not tap/thread the flanges on circulators,That way, only bolts are needed for assembly and, you would free up the other hand to hold the circ in place, while installing it? (easier than trying to Grow another hand:) )!

  • and those *&!%#*&!

Those Weil McLain boiler air vent scoop thread arre too close to boiler supply pipe.. Can't turn the fittings on venting after the supply nipple instatted, now I have a way of doing this but, for those others, customers are learning a few new words...

Here is a general one that does not fall under heating or rocket science. Why can't the people that make drill bits stamp the size where it won't get bunged up by the chuck.

    I hear ya!!

I am so with you there. I would love to see threaded flanges!! how about a vertical condensate for the GB!

Almost as bad as trying to tighten a Street ell!
Here's another one...How about a Quick-conect hydraulic fitting, (like the ones used on snow plows) that could be put on the oil filter or pump to make the swing out chamber door a REAL time saver.Or for pump removal or burner removal, or just plain conveince.

    My guess Mike,
water only flows downhill unless you use a pump. Which is what I do for a higher drain (A/C condensate pump works great)

    hmm

I know water flows down but if Rinnai can make a vert condensate how come they don't have one for the Buderus 3" pvc. Or do they somewhere? Am I not getting the principle behind it or??? If you have a ring inside the tube like the Rinnai then you should be able to collect the condensate like that. I run into many instances where it would be soooo much easier to run it straight! One job probably cost about 200 in extra labor and materials because of limited room and that stupid horizontal drain.
    ahh feel slightly better now.
