Extrol tank in hydronic heating system
radioconnection
Member Posts: 7
Is it critical at which point in the heating supply that you put the Extrol tank. I have heard before the pump, after the pump, on the water feed, anyplace in the supply line. I would like to ask the seasoned vets to straighten me out on this qustion, along with the proper location and reasons for that location. Thank you in advance for the expertise

point of no pressure change. There is more to it than that. if you get Dan's book called "Pumping Away" it will all make sense to you. but in a nutshell, It should be just before the return side of the circulator. And the circ should be on the supply. The tank is the only place in a system that the pressure remains at 12psi. (the precharge)by placeing it there, the circ "suction" sees 12psi then adds it's own press differential. so at no point is there a possability of a neg. or vacume created by the circ. thus eliminating the chance of drawing air INTO the system.
Anyone else want to try to explain it? I think I did ok.:)
Happy Monday. oops, Tuesday all!
