  • residential steam boiler replacement

    hey all, 2 questions here:
i have a eg-55 that needs to be replaced.. should i just swap it out with another wm or use a burnham or new yorker? the customer is concerened about rubber gaskets holding the sections together?

also, if i change the wm with another make, will the 3" header supply on the eg-55 change the system if i install a burnham or ny which the headers are 2"? the header on the existing eg-55 is 3"X 18" into a 3X2 ell.. later
  • Don't go by the EG-55's rating

count up the radiation to be sure you know what the right size should be.

Make sure the main vents are in place and properly sized.

Is the horizontal portion of that header 3-inch? If so, and the other pipe sizes and configuration are above the specified minumums, it will work fine with a different boiler.

  • You'd have to check

the piping diagrams for the other boilers. Most are available online.

  • how old and what's wrong

How old and what's wrong with the present boiler? As Steamhead says, count the existing loads and check the return pipings, buried ? Present bolier failures are ususlly caused by high water usage and improper pipings, etc,etc...
