Replacing a gravity bioler

since it's measured in the boiler room, it will be less as you go up thru the house. Keep it close to the pressure in the existing system and you should be fine as long as you Pump Away.

Pipe the Ultra primary-secondary. This effectively decouples the system circulation from the boiler circulation. Use whatever primary or boiler circ W-M recommends, but size the system secondary circ from the existing radiation using the chart you will find here:

This will duplicate the gravity circulation and avoid short-circuiting the flow thru the rads.

    Replacing a gravity boiler

We are quoting a gravity boiler replacement. We have worked on the boiler for several years and the customer wants to replace the boiler for eff. purposes and also wants to go to a modern pumped system. The system is a Honeywell "accelerated hot water heating" system with all the original components in place. It has the "heat generator", "Phelps heat retainer", and the "Unique" radiator valves. The customer wants a Weil-Mclain "Ultra" bioler and for us to modernize the system. I realize we will have to rework the near boiler piping, go to a modern expansion tank and set the system up to be "pumping away". My question is ( and I can't get a definate answer from any of our suppliers LOL) will the "Unique" radiator valves work with a pumped system? Will the valves hold up OK with 15-18 PSI water pressure (The home is a 2 story)? And what other issues might we encounter on this type of system?

    steamhead is...

right on...most problems w/ gravity conversions are over pumping...in most cases a smaller pump-003/005 can do the job fine. With the Ultra would be conserned w/ trying to clean the system...flush out as much crud as possible...I might look into using some Rhomar products...kpc

Also check with you Weil Rep. we have sold many Ultra on old cast iron systems, but only using Maxi Flow heat
exchangers from Weil. this will separate the Ultra from
the old dirty system. the heat exchanger in the Ultra has
    small passage ways.

    Unique valves

Doug Starbuck had these on his radiators in his old shop (sadly gone now). The boiler had a circulator and the valves worked just fine on the radiators.
    Retired and loving it.
