of repairing it, he's right, it is probably perforated, I've seen them get eaten up, as the oil level drops in the tank more holes are exposed to air and the problem gets worse.

How old is your tank??, Most inground tanks are passee, I would rec'd changing over to another tank before you have more problems.

    Fuel Oil Line Leak

Stupid question maybe... I have had a problem for the past few years... the oil burner starts fine but cycles on and off. A burner technician tested the fuel line with a push pull type hand pump. Not only was the line partially clogged but he also found that it had a small leak. It appeared to be sucking air somewhere, and these air bubbles were visible through an attached clear plastic tube. He convinced me that this leak existed, but since we could find no obvious leak, he suggested that it might be in the portion of the line that extends into the tank. Is this possible? That the line could actually be sucking air inside the tank? The line and tank by the way are buried and I just dug them up.

The tank is 18 years old... and at the time they were burying 550 gal tanks here as standard. What causes the line to preforate in the tank, and do you suppose there is any hope for a repair? Can I get the old fittings off the top of the tank?
