Oh to be 21 again!
At midnight tonight, you'll find two old farts sitting at the bar in Kelly's Inn, a fine Irish establishment, sharing a cold libation with their newly 21-year-old lad. Birthdays back-to-back! lois today, Mike tomorrow. T-minus 2-hrs 45-minutes to being legal.
It's been a looooonnnnngggg week. Dad fell & (literally) broke his neck Tuesday at 1:30 AM & it's been one hell of a long sleepless week dealing with paramedics, etc... But, tonight, we party!
21, who would have thought it would come so soon. A man stands where a child was just yesterday.0 -
Dave,
Congratulations to Mike.
All the best to Dad for a quick recovery.
Grand child number 1 just turned 18 and I'm sure when I wake up tomorrow she'll be 21 also.
Ah, let's live life to the fullest-Cheers to the three of you tonight.

Yah
First LEGAL beer! Savor the moment.
I was 21 once. Actually 18 then. I've seen the pictures. No, it wasn't pretty.
Good luck to Dad. Hope all goes well.0 -
Thats quite a moment
and one that happens all to soon. My oldest is ten and it seems like yesterday I held him at the Hospital.

Hah!
I hear you on the I can't wait thing. Been there done that! Last night was a blast & everywhere we went, folks went out of their way to congratulate him. We savored the moment.
Dad looks just like Darth Vader when Luke removed his helmet except that Dad's neck brace is white. At 1:30 AM Tues morn, he fell (or fainted) and rode a six-step set of stairs (head-first we think) to the bottom. The blood-trail gave us his pathway. Skin tears on multiple parts of the bod. He refused going to the hospital & the paramedics gave him the ok to stay at home. The next day was spent going to doctor-home-xray-home-CT scan-home-emer room-admitted to trauma unit (ironically - at 1:30 AM). This week could best be summed up as he's darned lucky to be alive. I put up a physical barrier across the open stairwell & screwed it to the side walls. Shoulda thought of that before this happened.0 -
Scary
Wow, that's scary. I hope he recovers quickly, Dave.
Congrats to you, Lois and the MAN!!! Having a beer with him must have been Heaven.0 -
thanks
Dad has been a real trooper - not once has he complained. Had Mom not been awakened by a caughing fit and gotten up to take some medicine, she wouldn't have heard him fall, found him, and then called us (we live next door).
Saturday, 50 of Mike's friends are coming over to celebrate. Those who are under 21 had their parents invited too. More than a few are planning on spending the night. Pulled pork and turkey etc. Might just be some beer too!0
