do i need to flush this radiator?

I have a 2 pipe steam radiator (a burnham radiant recessed into the wall). The problem is only the 1st section of the radiator gets hot. I recently opened up the return side of radiator between the rad and the trap in hopes that the steam would rush through the radiator. That did not happen. Could something be clogging the radiator and do i need to flush it out. It never really worked since i bought the house and i have been on the hunt for a solution for some time. It definitely is getting steam to the supply side as the handle is very hot and wide open. Very dissapointed that opening up the return did not produce the results i was hoping for.

thanks for any help you can provide.

    Questions

Did you see condensate drain through of the return when you opened it up? If there is no steam and no condensate, it sounds like it there could be a blockage.

Also, I assume the boiler did not cycle off during your trial. Having the return open should have given this radiator prime booking for steam.
