Marking/I.D. on Propress, meters, tools

I have an electric engraver I use to write my name and company name on all of my hand tools. I've been doing that for years. I have all of the Model #'s and Serial #'s of all of my stuff, hand tool, electric, pipe threaders, etc.
I got to looking at my cordless ProPress and can't quite get myself over marking it all up and making it look bad. But, I also want to mark it up enough that someone would have to go to alot of trouble (and make the tool look bad) by grinding my markings off. Then I realized I have not marked my Fluke or Testo stuff. I keep it all in one bag, bring it in at night, etc. Man, that's a bunch o'money when you see it all in one place at one time. I only bring the Propress and analyzers when I know I'm going to need them, so I keep them locked up at home.
What do my fellow wetheads do in this regard? Engrave all over it? They make an electric branding iron thing that you can put your company name and phone number in (uses metal punches) that melts your info into the plastic.
Any ideas??

Theft...
Someone here once posted that they paint all their tools flat black as a theft deterrent.
The less attractive they are the less attention they draw.
Awhile back we had problems with people stealing the emergency phones from the elevators in our buildings. The maintenance guy started splattering them with paint, haven't lost a phone since.
I have a a number stamp set and put my social security number on most things.

engraving
If the mood strikes you to engrave a number in your tools please use your driver license number instead of your SSN. Any law enforcement officer can run a license check by number in a matter of seconds. SSN are much tougher to look up and are not listed in NCIC..Got a phone call at 930 one night after my hypress crimper was found in the trunk of a car that was stopped.....yep stolen a few weeks earlier..0 -

Paint
We also do the paint, our company colors: bright orange and black, paint on all of our tools. It can be cleaned off but you need to really get it in all the grooves and "cracks and crevices". Make it hard to get off.
We had some tools stolen off a truck parked downtown one afternoon this past summer. As soon as our man found out he called in and we asked him to check at the only pawn shop downtown. Sure enough there was the cordless tools that had been stolen. Paint had been wiped off but as soon as he pulled a battery there was "our" orange and black markings all over. Informed the police and we got them back.0
