Boston - Looking for someone experienced w/Oil to Gas Conversion

I have a WM SGO-4 with a Carlin EZ Oil Burner. With the oil to gas price differential, I am considering a conversion to gas since I already have has nearby. Perhaps the Carlin EZ-Gas burner.

    In contacting Weil-McLain, they write:

"Weil-McLain never tested the burner on the boiler, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work. If you have this installed and problems should occur, we would have to refer you back to the Carlin Company."

Can anyone who has real experience with these conversions please send me your contact information? I know this is a specialized process that needs the right experience. I will need to install a chimney liner before this work is done.

    Many years ago,

i installed a gas burner in a 5 section with a tjerlund side shot....i was not enthusiastic with the prospect prior to installation and during the first winter was even less enamoured with the entire idea.

an atmospheric without the sideshot is what i had recommended in the first place...everyone other than me an my mouse seems to have forgotten that however, as they are unable to see through the veil of anger on the other side of the ice dams under the soffit and peeling away the vinyl siding....

I called Dave at Carlin and he told me that he couldn't give me a referral due to company policy. He can's refer one person over another, so he can't refer anyone.

He suggested calling the local plumbing supply house to get a good referral I question whether there are enough people doing these conversions for a counter sales guy to really know how good someone is with this specialty.

    Keep the oil

    Steve,

Let me start by saying I am an oil guy so I am biased. Now, if you are having difficulty finding someone capable of making the conversion what will happen when the time comes for service? In some areas there are capable gas service people to choose from. In others there aren't. Oil areas generally have plenty of companies to choose from. You may want to ride it out for a while to see what happens. Often gas prices catch up or go ahead. One last thing, any gas info Timmie gives you is spot on.

    Something to think about,

My feeling is that the days of converting boilers is not what it was like years ago. Once a gas burner is working, the gas company can service it, right?

I don't plan on getting rid of oil. Just being able to use the most cost effective fuel when the disparity is as big as it is today. From what I have been reading, oil prices may be extreme for a very long time.

    Conflicting stories

As far as the gas company doing service I hear some areas do and some don't you should check if yours does. Be careful, they may offer you a free system to convert, that system usually isn't capable of oil. Once they get you they don't want you switching back. Your idea to use either fuel makes more sense.
