Today I rewired my BoilerMate using the low voltage T-T terminals of the L8148a.I disconnected the 120 volt wires going to the normally open(N/O) contacts in the BoilerMate(orange color)also disconnecting the other end at the limit, where the problem was.I used the same orange wires to run the thermostat wire to the T-T contacts inside the Aqua-stat.The pair of blue wires(N/O) are used to connect 120 volts to the H/W circulator. Also instead of using the normally closed(N/C) contacts of the BoilerMate(purple wires)to stop the house circulator to make it a hot water priority setup,I chose to leave it the way I had wired it years ago. I had put in a 120 volt relay, wiring the coil of the relay to the BoilerMate circulator circuit and wiring power for the transformer for my zone valves across the normally closed(N/C) contacts of the relay. When there is a call for hot water, the HW ciculator circuit also powers the 120 volt relay opening the N/C contatcts of the relay removing power from the transformer disabling the zone valves and in turn the circulator for the house .The Post Purge feature now works as intended. Thanks again Charlie Masone.

R 7184 P Keeps Running in Post Purge Mode
I am having a problem with an R7184P1072 that I installed to replace an R7184b(non post purge). The unit will run ok once or twice but then suddenly it will stay running contiuously in post purge mode even with a call for heat. The burner won't light again until I shut the main switch off and start again. I have tried the DIP settings but it doesn't help.I wired it as shown in the spec sheet running an extra constant hot wire to the L1 terminal and the red limit wire to the aqua-stat. I was wondering if anyone else was having trouble with these units? The old unit had the aqua-stat limit wired to L1.
Thanks

This is normal, if you are getting a constant voltage feed onto the limit circuit. For instance, the Buderus Logomatic control always has a small voltage (I forget but it is like 5V) on the limit circuit, this indicates to the control that there is a call for heat, however there is not enough voltage to keep that solenoid valve open. In instances like this you need to control the burner thru the TT terminals.0 -
In this case should he wire both the L1 and the limit lead to B1 (aquastat)? This way there won't be enough voltage to run the burner motor either. Or will the control still think it's in post purge?0 -
Paul
I am not an expert on the Buderus Logomatic but Charlie Smith from Buderus told my customer how to wire it. The Buderus is shipped for pre-purge only, in other words the power to both leads comes from the Limit terminal in the Logomatic (I don't think Buderus calls it B1) our customer decided to wire the burner for post-purge when we gave him a Beckett GeniSys sample and encountered the problem then so then he installed the 7184P with the same results. I assumed thst he had a constant voltage on the limit circuit and he confirmed it, he went to Buderus for an answer and they had the solution.
I am not sure if we are even talking Buderus in this thread the originator did not say.0 -
R7148 p
I called a Beckett service tech and he suggested that I swap the red(going to aqua-stat limit)with black L1 terminal. He said that the terminal designations could be wrongly labeled. Dunno !! I will have to try it and see.

Post Purge Continuously Running
I apologize. I should have stated that the burner is a Beckett B 2007 AFG installed on a 10 year old Peerless WBV-04.0 -
Tom
The B2007 comes with a 7184B not a 7184P, and the WBV boiler is only wired for pre-purge, in other words there should be only a white and a black wire, no red wire. If the boiler was re-wired for post-purge the colors could be mixed, the terminals on the control cannot be mixed up, they are soldered to a printed circuit board. The label for the terminals is a single strip, I find it hard to believe that it was printed wrong. So just follow the wires to the temperature control, make sure the wire attached to the limit terminal goes back to B1 and the wire on L1 goes back to L1.0 -
r 7184 p
I understand what you are saying but maybe I did not explain it clearly. Originally I had a Peerless Wbv-04 with a plain old primary control-no valve delay no post purge and standard ignition- just a plain vanilla oil primary control. I was in the plumbing supply store last month and saw the new Peerless with all the goodies- interrupted ignition, oil valve with delay and new improved PSC motor. I bought the Beckett B 2007 burner but it came with the r7184 "B" primary contol which has no post purge feature. So I ordered the r7184 "P" which has all the features of the "B"
control plus the post purge mode.I wired it as it says in the spec sheet and added the additional constant hot wire to the L1 terminal and put the red wire to the aquastat limit. After it runs on a call for heat and is either satisfied or at limit it goes to post purge mode and will not stop running no matter what the time selection is set at the DIP switches. Also it will not start the burner again on a call for heat, the unit continuously runs in post purge mode. I hope that I explained it more clearly this time.I suspect the limit is still seeing voltage. If I put the old primary(r7184"B") back on- it works ok.
Thanks for all your help

OK Tom, that all sounds reasonable, send me an email with youre phone number cmasone@beckettcorp.com
I re-read youre first posting, and you give us all of that info, sorry.0 -
Hello.
I just want to let you know what was wrong with the problem I was having with the r7184P Post Purge Mode continuously running. I am using an Amtrol indirect BoilerMate with Smart Control. Being that the BoilerMate has a solid state switch there is a voltage at the feed side of the limit in theL8148a Aquastat even with no call for hot water. I had wired the Amtrol for my own priority wiring but I should have wired it Amtrol's way using low voltage switching to the Aquastat.Never wire a Smart Control(solid state) to the line side of the limit using the line voltage if you plan on using a post purge primary such as the r7184 "P". It would probably be all right with other r7184's etc. This would not be a problem with the old mechanical relays in the older Boilermates but a solid state relay still has a voltage reading even when off.I am going to rewire the BoilerMate using Amtrol's Priority Schematic that uses the low voltage contacts in the L8148a. The heating(house) ciculator shuts off by Smart Control contacts when making hot water.I hope this helps. The hard part is remembering all this the next time. Thanks to all of you especially Charlie Masone who took the time to call me on his way to golf. This is a GREAT site. !!!

Ok, I missed the Logomatic connection there.0 -
OH, on his way to golf. Those reps really work way to hard!
Glad he was able to help you out.0 -
I was golfing with a customer, it could have been you!
It was good to talk to Tom, who apparently changed his name to Joe today! When we spoke we went over all the things wired to the boiler and when he brought up the Boiler Mate it reminded me of a job about 5 years ago that had the same problem up in Connecticut, at that time we were shipping burners for Burnham wit Carlin 60200 controls and they reacted the same way.0
