    boiler

at 10.9% co2and 41% excess air. that isn't that good. at what percent co2 does it start to run at a trace of smoke.

the one that i installed ,

    has a Riello.
it sounds and acts very much like a Viessmann chassis burner.

everything just purrs along like a kitty cat :)

it is radiant with an instantaneous water heater (pinner indirect) out of triangle tube lane by way of Keller

    :)

I think the Slant -Fin ,Eutectic, is an exceptional value.
  • Weezbo Exceptional Value

    Is an understatement.

As far a smoke, it has no trace of smoke and never did. After a few tanks of fuel the flue connector to the chimney has no visible or detectable soot whatsoever period.

i like the way you practise wisdom.

that young ladd has a great deal of admiration in his eyes for you. Way to be. i read .between the lines, a lot.

    Looks fishy to me

Excess air at 41%,10.9 CO2 and 88% combustion eff? The only way that would be possible is that either it is a condensing boiler or you took your reading as soon as you fired it with your water temp at 90 degrees. If it is a true reading with your water temp up above 140 then you should be able to get your EA dialed in to 30%, CO2 12% and should be above 90%. I find that very hard to believe in a standard 3-pass design. I'm not knocking the boiler, they look to be a good piece of equipment, I'm just questioning the presentation of the data.
  • Blame Testo

The water temperature was above 160 ish and below 180 during the test. It has to run there because we are a little short on baseboard. The boiler has about 15 minute run cycle when it is cold. Easy to get a test done in the mid cycle time.

Yes it is a 3 pass. The smallest they make.

The data is from Testo. I prefer Bacharach, but that's that.

    Why the high excess air?

I'll certainly look into these little miracles then.

Why the high excess air? Did you try cutting the air back and getting the CO2 up to around 12%? Seems like if it performs that well were it is it would be nothing short of phenomenal dialed in.

Does this boiler have any special internal mixing or or stainless combustion cylinder?
  • Nothing fancy except the skin

A little excess air is nice for times of low draft (spring & fall) start-ups.

No special mixing or stainless. That's the beauty of the unit.

    Tried one

One of the distributors I buy from was on me to try one forever and I finally put one in a few weeks ago, it was O.K, I didn't get the combustion reading your are claiming. The performance was very similar to a Buderus G115 or a Burnham MPO that I am used to. I have nothing against it, it just didn't show me anything to make me jump ship.

    Low Temp

Can it except low temp returns like a Burnham or Buderus?
  • Andy L

You should have got those readings it's rated at 87% right out of the crate. Nobody's sheet-metal even gets close especially for the price range. Dollar for dollar nothing gets close period.

    AFUE

It's rated 87% AFUE out of the box, combustion efficiency is a totally different number, it's only one piece of the equation. Like I said, it was a nice little boiler but it's not magic!!

    Not so....

Actually the New Yorker FR-HGS has a rating of 87.8% AFUE out of the box and is less than the EC. Be careful with your marketing claims.

    where was the wand, rw

Where was the wand inserted in the smoke pipe? Before or after the barometric?

    Kevin Flynn

There was an error rendering this rich post.

  • Right Here

  • I put in a Utica Oil Boiler

energystar rated, and AFUE rated at 86% and that is exactly the reading I got on my old Fryrite combustion analyizer. Thanks, Bob Gagnon
