Baseboard and Mod Codensing Boilers

Baxi HT series is a better choice than the 310. The 310 has fixed parameters while the HT modulates based on return water temperatures. Yes more expensive, however, the 310 is only a published 87 percent efficient, while the HT publishes 97 percent I believe.

    Baseboard and Mod Codensing Boilers

Is it beneficial to install a Mod Condensing boiler when all I have are baseboard radiators? I was looking at the Monitor MZ Boiler but I noticed the maximum water temps are 176 degrees?

    Baxi has the 310.

Can anyone recommend a Mod Condensing Boiler that is quiet and can be installed in a closet and can also do hot water? Any assistance is appreciated.

    YES

    Hi John,

See my post "My boiler doesn't shut off" near the bottom of the list of posts.

    Monitor MZ

last I checked, was not made in a modulating version. I own one and it is condensing, sure, but on-off in operation. It is a shame the way it cycles. Heats fine but loses the efficiency race against a real Mod-Con.

The only limitation is how much radiation you have relative to heat loss. If your baseboard worked with a good margin at 180F it should be fine at 176. If you insulated your house well since the radiation was installed (say an older house now improved) you can get away with water in the 140 range possibly.

Brookhaven National Laboratory did a study (Dr. Butcher) to evaluate if a baseboard system could work with a ModCon and outdoor reset and still demonstrate enough hours to have condensing and show a savings. Short answer: Yes.
