Munchie

Did my first replacement of a Munchie (It was a Peerless Pinnacle) blower fan today. Had never replaced on on a boiler that I installed. It was three years old. Only unscheduled service call it ever had.

You all will be happy to know that the new blowers use a METAL fan.

Will post pictures later, camera is out in the car.

    Munchkin fan

There is also 100 second post purge available that gets downloaded into the control. A good idea with long flues.

    Thanks

This unit has a short flue. No need for the long purge.

Here is a pic of the new fan.

    Too cool for school!

    Cool Beans, Al!
I wonder why HTP didn't do this before when they first started having problems with the fan assembly? Pinnacle has been OK other than that you said?

    Post Purge

Even on short runs, I think the longer post purge is beneficial.

    longer post purge seems

to help the flame rod and spark rod life. You need to get that combustion chamber dried out as much as possible after the burner stops.

Until the day comes when the burners can modulate from 400 BTU/ hr to???? so the components never cycle.

    Lots of Munchies

We have Very many Munchkins and Pinnacles out there.

The only issues we've had are the occasional flame/spark rod, maybe a pressure sensor once in a while.

I've replaced blower units before, but this was a first on one of my installs. I rechecked the outside venting terminations to be sure there is no exhaust gas recirculation. This was just time for this blower to go.

I'm really happy that the new wheel is made of metal. The plastic wheel is made of parts that appear to be glued together. In my opinion, the glued joints cannot take the torque from starting, and failure occurs from stress at these points.

Again, I have MANY of these units out there, and this was a first for one of my installs. This unit was installed in 2004.

I would not hesitate to install many more of these, as three of my local supply houses stock all the parts for these units. Plus, I keep a supply of parts IN THE CAR, in a special toolbox, just for these boilers, to handle almost anything that may arise at 2AM.

I hate when customers are cold.

    Hi Al

Would love to know the name of the supply houses in westchester that stock all those Munchie parts.

Central plumbing where go has to order them and nobody likes to wait
