Find a good contractor to design, install and service your system. THEN talk about the various brands of material with him.

    radiant heat

Purchasing historic building in Guildhall, VT ... Building's heating and plumbing recently destroyed by freezing and so we are considering alternatives. Specifically interested in comments about radiantec in Lyndonville VT and recommendation of plumbing and heating contractor with historic building restoration experience.
    Thanks. Don

  • if this is going to be DIY, I'd scoot over to radiant panel association website. There's a few consultants that will help design a system for you. Northeast Radiant Tech, who posts here regularly, will help with design as well.

    same here

I was going to buy an historic building in Vermont myself, but the deal didn't work out. I intended to restore it to period-correctness. These pre-Civil War places had no heat other than fireplaces and cookstoves, then were fitted with steam boilers and radiators early in the last century; and I would have redone the steam system with restored radiators and a modern oil boiler. Several guys on this site are experts in this field. Nothing warmer than big iron radiators (and they ARE radiant, as the name implies). Steer clear of cheap-budget orientated websites selling components-they are bad news.

    the magic of Radiant heating

in renovations depends a great deal on the abilities of the contractor to grasp the scope of the endeavour in its entirety....Really you need to spend more time with a pencil and eraser. that will give you the best product.

handing an installer the wrong thing and asking him to make it go is really not in your best interest. see if you can find a few professionals, give each some consideration for their proposals..before buying ....
